Green light for the final project for the first section of the Tyrrhenian Link, the new direct current power line between Sardinia, Sicily and Campania.

The ok came from the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

This is the first portion of the power line - the east one - and covers about 480 km, from the territory of Battipaglia, in the province of Salerno, to the territory of Termini Imerese (Palermo) .

Subsequently, the connection line between Sicily and Sardinia (in the Cagliaritano area) will be built.

The Tyrrhenian Link, included in Terna's national electricity grid development plan since 2018, is a cutting-edge project that involves the construction of two submarine power lines (one from Campania to Sicily and one from Sicily to Sardinia) for a total of 950 km of 1000 MW direct current connection.

In the intentions, once completed, the work will lead to the improvement of the electricity exchange capacity between Campania, Sicily and Sardinia, but also a more effective use of energy flows from renewable sources, which are constantly increasing.

Furthermore, it will play a decisive role in improving the reliability of the network and the entire electricity system.

The entire Tyrrhenian link project will require Terna to invest approximately 3.7 billion euros over the next few years, involving around 250 companies in the construction of the project.

The work in its entirety will enter into operation in 2028: the first authorized section will be operational as early as the end of 2025.
