Two Austrians and seven Italians at the final of the 18th “Scrivere in Jazz”

61 scores have arrived from all over the world for the eighteenth edition of "Scrivere in jazz" , the international composition and arrangement competition for jazz orchestra organized by the Blue Note Orchestra Association. In addition to Europe, applications also came from Argentina and Taiwan. The selection commission has indicated the nine finalists who will perform their works at the Teatro Verdi in Sassari on 12 and 13 September performed by the Jazz Orchestra of Sardinia.
Section A is dedicated to compositions inspired by themes of ethnic music from Sardinia. This year the theme was the work of the master of launeddas Luigi Lai . The three finalists are Marco Battigelli from Trieste, with the composition “A Bitty's Beat” , Riccardo Catria from Perugia, who reaches the final with “ Su Ballu Tundu ”, and the Austrian Tobias Hoffman , author of “ The Shepherd's Mad Dance ”.
Section B is dedicated to free original compositions and reserved for Italian and foreign students regularly enrolled at conservatories and music schools. Accessing the final are “Lilac Dreams” by Martino Corso from Genoa, “Bloemen” by Gabriele di Franco , a musician from Como who works in Brussels, and “Luce” by Francesco Spinazza , from Spoleto.
Finally, section C is dedicated to the arrangements of compositions by Maestro Giorgio Gaslini , a great composer who was a member of the examining commission and President of the jury of 2Scrivere in Jazz in several editions. The three finalists are another musician from Genoa, Marco Borella, who arranged “Millacamilla”, Ferdinando Caiazzo from Naples, who wrote the arrangement of “Gli Incatenati” , and Markus Neuwirth , Austrian composer who arranged “ Daina” .
