A dress that becomes more than an object, as a guardian of memories, revealer of emotions and secrets or, again, material for narration: and it is precisely under the theme of " Vestival! Stories, visions and books to put on " that the twenty-first edition of Tuttestorie , the Literature Festival for Girls and Boys, returns from 7 to 11 October : seventy-eight guests , including Italian and international writers, illustrators and artists, and three hundred and ninety events scheduled at the ExMa in Cagliari , in via San Lucifero 71 , to explore dress as identity, memory and story .

In its renewed collaboration with local brands, publishing houses, and cultural agents, the Festival is keeping a close eye on foreign countries : as demonstrated by the presence of renowned children's author Abby Hanlon , who returns from New York on the tenth anniversary of her " Dory Fantasmagorica ," and her Australian colleague and UNICEF ambassador Sophie Blackall , as well as Vietnamese-American cartoonist Trung Le Nguyen with his " The Magic Fish ," an acclaimed debut in which queer identity and fairy tales intertwine to tell a story of migration and growth. Also expected are Dutch writer David Vlietstra , his colleague Tamara Bach , the Flemish creative duo Jacques & Lise , and Swedish authors Anders Sparring and Per Gustavsson . Meanwhile, the writer and poet Silvia Vecchini , the illustrator Sualzo (alias Antonio Vincenti) and the writer and film critic Manlio Castagna are arriving from the Peninsula.

Reserving a special space for children aged zero to six , in the readings by the volunteers of Nati per Leggere and the interactive performances with the Basque actor, artist and art historian Ieltxu Ortueta , clothing is therefore a thematic thread that immediately emerges in the central square with the exhibition " Una testa a pois ", a composition of seventeen bizarre outfits topped by large faceless heads, curated by Manuela Fiori . This is also the case with the original production " Zootköping, Little Red Riding Hoods and Prodigious Shirts " by Catia Castagna and Elena Iodice , in which dozens of printed dresses become three-dimensional surfaces to inhabit and have fun, accompanying the audience into a "sound wardrobe" thanks also to collective listening via headphones. And again with the laboratories and workshops , exploring the concept of clothing up to the paintings of Sonia Delaunay and Carla Accardi , and the choreography of " Vesto il gesto ".

But clothing becomes above all a tool for addressing social issues and building participatory projects, with " Lacoperta di Yusuf " by the La Carovana Cooperative – founded at the instigation of the Lampedusa Library – remembering the baby of the same name who died in the tragic migrant trade in the Mediterranean; " Mattomantomantello " by Alberto Marci , with children collectively creating a textile work by encouraging one another; the exchange of clothes with " Chooseme! " by Valentina Atzori ; and the reflection on identity in the short film " Dragfox ." Closing the festival on Sunday 11th is " Sfilata frayed. Oggi come mi Vestival? ", a final parade with music by Catia Castagna and lyrics by Tognolini, where writers, children, and volunteers parade together, wearing the creations created during the Festival.

With the schools and libraries of the island involved in the event since October 5th , accompanying the edition are the interludes in animated cinema offered by the Cineteca Sarda , the original soundtracks by Antonello Murgia , which are accompanied by the graphic design signed by Ignazio Fulghesu and the words written by Bruno Tognolini , also included in his new collection " Rima Rimasta ".

The event will culminate with "Frayed Parade. Today, How Should I Dress?" , a closing parade orchestrated by Catia Castagna, with lyrics by Bruno Tognolini and vinyl music. Writers, volunteers, and children will parade together wearing creations created during the festival, bringing the interplay of dress, storytelling, and identity that will permeate the entire edition into a collective dimension.
