Thus Paolo Truzzu, next to him the FdI parliamentarians Antonella Zedda and Francesco Mura, comments on the electoral results by complimenting the new president of the Region Alessandra Todde. And he announces an obvious choice: he will leave the city he has led for the last five years (and which will go to the polls this year) to sit in the Regional Council .

According to the centre-right candidate everything was decided in Cagliari, where the citizens rejected his mandate as mayor: « In Cagliari there was more one vote against myself than for Todde, but if you ask me if I would do everything I did again I said yes ." The causes? " Many factors, from the disjointed vote to construction sites ."

Defeat for Meloni? No, Paolo Truzzu defends the party leader: " With 3-4 percentage points more in Cagliari we would have overturned the result and today we would be talking about Meloni's victory, which is why the responsibility is mine ." The elections, Truzzu's reasoning, "were not influenced by national factors."

«My feeling - he continues regarding Cagliari - is that of those who failed to make people understand that the sacrifice of the construction sites was being made for the good of the city. What is being done now will be understood later and will be an advantage for the city in the coming years. I knew there was discontent, but I didn't think it was on this scale . I was also reassured by the candidates who were taking the pulse of the city."

Asked about a possible appeal , given the small margin between him and Todde, Truzzu says «now is not the time to talk about a recount. We will evaluate after seeing the Court report . Of course, with such a small gap you can even think about appealing, I know that in Cagliari alone there were a thousand invalid ballots, but now it's not on the agenda ."

He takes the blame but also throws a jab at Truzzu's allies when he says that " perhaps, if we had started the electoral campaign earlier, we would have had a different result ." In short, the delays in choosing the candidate, the conflict in the coalition and the tug-of-war with Solinas had an impact. The last-minute choice, a month before election day, "has had an impact" , highlights Truzzu, who nevertheless claims the " great results outside the urban centres " and underlines: "Despite all these factors we have almost managed to disprove a rule according to which every legislature the coalitions at the helm of the Region alternate".
