The Convitto Nazionale Canopoleno of Sassari has created an educational project entitled “Traveling with Marco Polo”. The initiative was born on the occasion of the celebrations of the 700th anniversary of the death of the great Venetian traveler and of the trip of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to China at the end of last year.
The project, carried out in collaboration with the prestigious Confucius Institute of the Sant'Anna University of Pisa, involved children in the third year of primary school and students in the fifth year of the international scientific high school in China.
Through his private secretary at the Quirinale, President Mattarella wanted to congratulate the rector Stefano Manca for the work carried out by the students of Canopoleno for the project that has proven to be not only worthy of attention, but also of absolute educational and formative value for the young students. A sign of esteem more than ever welcome for the work carried out in the classrooms of the Sassari Institute.
Director Wu of the Confucius Institute of the Sant'Anna University of Pisa also wanted to congratulate the elementary and high school students for the works they created, including posters, panels, lanterns and a short performance using the kamishibai technique, the “paper theater”.
“It was a good way to stimulate interest in studying Chinese – teachers Rita Spina and Li Jing highlighted – but also an opportunity to introduce the beauty and importance of this fascinating language to children, who had the opportunity to discover and cultivate a passion for a new culture.”
