Tragedy in the world of motors. Victor Steeman , 22-year-old Superbike rider, didn't make it.

The young Dutchman died overnight in hospital from serious injuries sustained in the accident that took place last Saturday during Race 1 of the World Supersport 300 in Portimao , Portugal.

Steeman had been involved with other riders in an accident at Turn 14 and while he was on the ground he was hit by an oncoming bike , that of José Luis Perez Gonzalez. The race was immediately suspended, the pilot transported to the circuit medical center and then transferred by helicopter to the hospital in Faro.

The doctors' efforts were useless, the injuries sustained to the head by the young rider were very serious: “Unfortunately, what all the parents of a motorcycling rider fear has always happened. Our Victor failed to win this last race. Despite the unbearable loss and pain, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero managed to save five other people by donating his organs . We want to thank everyone for the way you have lived with us these last few days. We will miss our Victor very much ”, reads a note issued by the family.

Steeman was among the great protagonists of the Supersport 300, still in contention for the world title, about fifty points behind the leaders. In 14 races he achieved four wins, five podiums and three pole positions.
