Tragedy in the world of motors. Lorenzo Somaschini, a 9-year-old baby rider, died in an accident during a Superbike race on the Brazilian circuit of Interlagos .

The child, originally from Rosario, Argentina, was participating in the Junior Cup, part of the Superbike Brasil championship, in the category aimed at children and teenagers between 8 and 18 years old. During the first free practice sessions, at the exit of Pinheirinho, a historic curve on the track which also hosts the Formula 1 GP, Somaschini fell and hit his head violently in the crash .

On Friday he rushed to hospital and was admitted to the Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo, where unfortunately he didn't make it and died in the night between Monday and Tuesday .

Considered a promise of Argentine motorcycling, Somaschini - born on 17 July 2014 in Rosario - dreamed of MotoGP and raced from the age of 4.

"All members of the SuperBike Brasil team are shocked by what happened and express sincere condolences to all of Lorenzo's family and friends," read a message from the organizers.

The accident has reopened the debate about safety in youth racing and whether such young children should race in these high-speed sports.
