Nandrolone, testosterone, but also growth hormone (GH), mesterolone and many other doping drugs, including Viagra and Cialis, are at the center of an investigation by the Prosecutor's Office that involved the managers of the Real gym in Assemini, but also some instructors, some athletes and various other sportsmen scattered in different areas of the Island. Once the investigations were closed, the deputy prosecutor Nicoletta Mari requested the referral to trial of 14 people accused, in various capacities, of complicity in the use or administration of drugs or other substances in order to alter the competitive performance of athletes, receiving stolen goods and illegally practicing the profession of pharmacist. Some are also accused of the supply of cocaine and other narcotics.

The investigation

The investigation began four years ago with the seizure by the NAS Carabinieri of some anabolic drugs and the complaint of the bodybuilder and personal trainer, Giuliano La Colla , 47 years old from Monserrato. Fabrizio Piroddu (45 years old from Sassari), another bodybuilding athlete, was also identified with him, during what the investigators – coordinated by the prosecutor Diana Lecca – had hypothesized to be an exchange of vials of nandrolone and other anabolic substances. For those drugs recovered by the military, the two athletes, defended by the lawyers Roberto Delogu, Guido Manca Bitti and Nicola Floris, have already been sentenced in recent months at the end of the abbreviated trial: La Colla to one year of imprisonment (continued with another sentence of 2 years and 8 months) and Piroddu to a year and a half. But it was precisely from the examination of the cell phones of the two suspects on that occasion that the alleged trafficking of doping substances contested by the prosecutor Nicoletta Mari emerged, which would have continued from March 2020 to February 2021. On December 6, 14 of them will have to appear before the preliminary hearing judge Elisabetta Patrito who will decide on the request for referral to trial formulated by the prosecutor Mari.

Drug trafficking

Giuliano La Colla is accused of having set up a trade in doping substances and of having sold them to athletes from Cagliari, Pula, Assemini, Capoterra, Domus De Maria, Iglesias, Capoterra and Quartu. He is also charged with abuse of the profession of pharmacist and receiving prescriptions of Viagra, Cialis and Kamagra (three drugs for sexual disorders). He is also suspected of having sold 60 grams of cocaine, earning over 5 thousand euros. Also in trouble on charges of trading in doping substances is bodybuilding instructor Giovanni Corda , 63 years old from Monserrato, who is also suspected of having illegally practiced the profession of biologist-nutritionist. As the owner and manager of Real di Assemini , Agostino Marco Onnis , a 63-year-old from Assemini, also got into trouble: the Prosecutor's Office suspects that he facilitated the trade and use of anabolics in his gym to alter the athletes' competitive performance. He is also charged with receiving prescription drugs. This crime, together with the trade in doping drugs, is also charged to Matteo Mulliri (36 years old from Quartucciu), Angelo Mattia Orrù (32, from Domus De Maria) and Fabrizio Piroddu himself. Also in Orrù, the Prosecutor's Office is also charging the sale of 73 grams of cocaine and an exchange of approximately 200 grams of marijuana. Renzo Broi (45, from Sestu) must answer for receiving stolen goods and selling Cialis and Kamagra, Vanessa Spiri (42, from Sassari) for dealing in doping substances, as do Pierluigi Frau (52, from Carbonia) and Samuele Bartolini (28, from Milan). Emanuele Serra (45, from Quartu), Giovanni Carrus (43, from Narbolia), Nicola Angius (46, Domus De Maria) are also accused of purchasing or receiving doping drugs, while Simone Gastaldi (40, from Cagliari) is accused of having sold 50 grams of cocaine to Giuliano La Colla.
