«2024 is destined to set new records for Italian tourism, after the already booming numbers of 2023». This is what the first data from the SRM-Intesa forecasts state, according to which this year in Italy a growth in tourists of 3.6% is expected, to reach a total of 447 million presences.

For the South and the Islands, in particular, the expected growth is +3.4%, equal to 85.2 million presences . And the same study underlines how, among the Italian regions, Sardinia continues to have excellent appeal.

In fact, if we compare the Regional Tourism Competitiveness Index of the 98 regions of the EU4 area (Italy, Spain, France and Germany), three of the top 10 positions are occupied by Italian regions. In the south, 6 regions are above the European average and Sardinia, together with Puglia and Campania, above the national average.

What makes Italian tourism special, it is underlined, is the quality of the services and the investments of the operators in the sector for the progressive improvement of the offer.

"The value of tourism is increasingly measured through the metrics of the quality of services, the socio-economic impact on the territories and investments in digitalisation and technology", explains a SRM-Intesa note. « From the first previews of the Srm Survey of 900 Italian hotel companies in the last three years, in Italy 25% have invested in sustainability and technology; 40% of companies in the South. An attention that will grow in the future: 70% of companies declare that they are interested in making new investments in the next three years, 75% of which in the South".
