Tourism in Sardinia, almost one million arrivals in August. Solinas: "Record season"
In 20 days, the landings of vacationers in ports and airports have exceeded those of 2021. In the airports, the percentages of 2019 have also been exceeded. The Region: "Summer of the relaunch"
“The provisional data for the month of August project Sardinia towards a record season , recording overall numbers higher than in the summer of 2019 . The island is confirmed as one of the favorite destinations of Italians, but the return of foreign tourists, after two years of absence due to the health emergency, is contributing to this important result. Tourism is confirmed as a leading sector of the Sardinian economy and this season represents the symbol of the revival ”.
This is the comment of the governor of Sardinia Christian Solinas on the provisional data of arrivals at ports and airports in the month of August.
And it is precisely the Region that rattles off the numbers: from 1 to 20 August , according to the data provided by the Port System Authority of the Sardinian Sea, 472,072 arrivals were recorded and the Sardinian ports (Olbia 292,312; Porto Torres 104,069; Golfo Aranci 62,636; Cagliari 13,055): numbers up compared to 2021 (+ 3.49%), but down compared to 2019, the year in which over half a million arrivals were recorded. In the same period, almost 500,000 passengers arrived at the three island airports , including scheduled and non-scheduled flights, with an increase of over 13% compared to 2021 and higher (about 5%) also in 2019. Between ports and airports, in in the first twenty days of the month, nearly one million passengers landed on the island .
“A proof - added President Solinas - that through the projects and investments of the Region, based not only on the environmental and landscape heritage, but also on traditions, culture and history, excellent results are achieved. Now, we must lead Sardinia to establish itself as a competitive tourist destination beyond the summer ”.
"I was sure that the numbers would prove us right, confirming the efforts made also during the period conditioned by the restrictions for the pandemic - underlined the regional councilor for tourism, Gianni Chessa - At the end of the season we could have the definitive data to make a balance sheet final of this summer and we are ready with the autumn program, thanks to the initiatives decided by the regional council. We have made many efforts and committed many resources, with the aim of consolidating summer flows and of seasonally adjusting in a concrete way . A decisive help came from the increase in guaranteed routes for the whole year and from the full program of major events, in particular sporting and cultural events . Sardinia confirms its attractiveness and tourism will be increasingly vital for the economic development of Sardinia ".
