The tourist boom isn't enough. Like every year in the fall, Sardinia seems ready to close its doors after a busy summer. And airlines are adapting, mercilessly cutting flights to the island. By the end of the month, flights will drop from over 260 to around 170.
Yet the almost summer-like temperatures and the main tourist centers crowded with tourists would suggest anything but a halt to the great circus of tourist reception. Not to mention the protests, which are multiplying these days among immigrants who maintain constant contact with the island, which in a few days will be deprived of connections (even national ones) that used to make Sardinia feel less distant.
In reality, one wonders who is triggering this vicious cycle. Is it the airlines that, for reasons of convenience, are grounding their planes, forcing Sardinian tourism to pause and bid farewell until next spring? Or is the trigger coming from Sardinian businesses themselves, closing their facilities, thus freezing holidaymakers' requests and airline bookings?
