A strong first half and a tense second half. Torres also won their league opener: 1-0 at the "Vanni Sanna" against a Pontedera side that shifted gears after halftime, often pinning the Sassari team back into their own half.
Pazienza's team started the match strongly, creating quick, vertical runs. In the 10th minute, Lunghi tested the goalkeeper with his best effort of a game that ended with a red card for a second, fortunately in injury time. After two attempts by Bonin, the goal was scored on the half-hour mark: Lunghi's low cross from the left found the target, finding Zecca on the opposite side, ready to tap it in.
In the second half, Pontedera, led by Menichini, formerly of Torres and Mazzone's assistant at Cagliari, took the initiative and created several threats, though they rarely found the target. The biggest threat came early in the second half when Bassanisi, taking advantage of a rebound, fired from inside the box, but Zaccagno blocked.
The changes in midfield, even in terms of positions (Masala and Lattanzio on) were not enough to regain momentum, but Torres, despite struggling, managed to hold on to the victory.
