«Too many disparities, the national maneuver must be challenged»

Yet another "slap" to Sardinia, victim of what has been defined by many voices as "unequal treatment: to the allocation of 14.6 billion euros foreseen for Sicily, with the construction of the Strait Bridge which will translate into concrete connections with Europe and international tourist flows, there is a paltry 5 million euros which effectively condemn the island to marginalization". Paola Secci doesn't beat around the bush: the budget, if it is approved in these terms, must be challenged by the Region.

It was discussed during the debate in the regional council to say no to the single nuclear waste repository on the island and the president of Cal - the council of local autonomies - took advantage of it to broaden the horizon and rewind the tape of the last years: there is a "fil rouge on which successive governments have been moving for some time without showing any interest in the island and instead of helping us to emerge from our atavistic backwardness, in defiance of the Constitution, they continue to undermine us". The violation of the principle of insularity, inserted into the Fundamental Charter a year ago after a long and across-the-board mobilization, is clear. And immediately after asking the council to challenge the budget, Secci warned: "We are ready to take to the streets." Also to say "no" to nuclear waste, "a transversal theme that calls for unity of purpose to preserve our island, forcefully assert the will to protect and enhance our thousand-year-old culture, natural beauty and immense historical heritage archaeological".

The other insult comes from the freight transport front: Sardinia was excluded from the contributions intended to make sea routes cheaper. As? In October, a decree from the Ministry of Transport identified several national maritime connections to be encouraged to reduce truck and lorry traffic on the roads. Also in this case Sicily is among the beneficiary regions but there is no Sardinian line.
