Countless fatal accidents and hundreds of injuries. The toll of accidents on the roads of Medio Campidano reads like a war bulletin: from the provincial road between San Gavino and Sardara, to the 196 and 197 in the stretch between Sanluri, San Gavino, and Guspini. These are cursed stretches of asphalt that have been awaiting safety improvements for years . This is why municipal administrators, unions, and commuters—in the aftermath of yet another fatal accident that claimed the life of Cristiano Melis on the provincial road to Sardara, just a few hundred meters from the San Gavino exit—are launching a new appeal.

Loredana Zuddas , territorial secretary of the CISL in Medio Campidano, is categorical: "The issue of transportation and mobility is absolutely central to the development of the area. The provincial road to Sardara is very dangerous and should be strengthened, especially because the new hospital is under construction and the area lacks a rail freight transport network. We need a permanent discussion table to address the issue of mobility in Medio Campidano: we must guarantee road safety for students and those who travel for work."

Franco Bardi , territorial secretary of the CGIL South-Western Sardinia, agrees: "We need greater investment in roads, in particular. I hope that with the reestablishment of the new provinces, there will be greater and much-needed attention to both Sulcis and Campidano."

The mayor of Sardara, Giorgio Zucca , has lost patience: "The provincial road between San Gavino and Sardara is extremely dangerous and not suitable for heavy traffic. I will ask the mayor of San Gavino to issue a joint ordinance to ban the transit of heavy vehicles. Every day, the safety of workers and students who take buses to school is also put at risk."
