Talked about, influential, in the spotlight. The second date of the Seven Urban Summit tour at the Cagliari Opera hosted singer Tony Effe on Saturday.
Two and a quarter, here he is on stage: silver Timberland boots, oversized sweatshirt with a palette of green and gray, cargo pants decorated with images of swans and, of course, the gold and diamond necklace number 17. Nicolò Rapisarda, born in '91, talks about both his beginnings with the Dark Polo Gang, founded in 2014 of which he was the frontman, and his solo career, which began three years ago with the album Untouchable.
The stage - a different location than Gemitaiz and MadMan - is surrounded by Generation Z, with parents at the edge of the pavilion or outside waiting.
The event spans his young career: the successes of the Roman scene and the collaborations up to the latest projects.
The audience explodes already at the first song, “Boss”, which has a declaration of intent: «I wanted to be the boss, but what rap? Gold watches with trap money».
The single takes up the base of 50 Cent's In Da Club in a trap key. The theme, faithful to the trend that made him famous, is the pursuit of success and unbridled materialism with an imaginary of dynamics of desire and conquest. A celebration of a lifestyle or a (questionable) vision of human relationships? There is also "British", one of DPG's iconic songs, then the audience lights up when the recorded voice of Pyrex of DPG intones "Cambiare Adesso", in which he reflects on loyalty to oneself, betrayals and challenges in music. Followed by "A taxi on the moon", together with Emma and packaged by the multi-platinum producers Takagi & Ketra, and "Michelle Pfeiffer", in which he duets with Rose Villain, evoking Scarface.
Under the stage, the teenagers: bright looks, verses memorized, eyes glued to the singer and smartphones, intent on recording everything. There are signs with “Marry me” or “Give me at least the jacket”. Nicolò interacts, asks for a shout for each artist he collaborates with. "Fashion" by Drillionaire arrives, together with Anna, Lazza and DJ Benassi, and, of course, the hit "Sesso e samba" with Gaia and then closes with "Miu Miu", from the latest album Icon, first place in the FIMI charts on debut.
In fifty minutes, Tony Effe - a past also as an actor - confirms himself as one of the symbols of the Under and not only for the millions of streams. He tells his world without filters. Putting aside - for now - the dissing with Fedez - even if singing "Chiara" is evidence - there is already controversy over his presence at the Roman New Year's Eve. Then will come Sanremo.
His storytelling on the one hand fits into a rap tradition that has always tried to provoke but today, in a context more sensitive to inclusiveness and respect, it makes us reflect on how certain messages are received, especially by young people. In the meantime, those young people go away happy and share videos as trophies, feeling even if only for one night, in that "Taxi on the moon".
Next showcases at the Operà: Anna on December 27th and Guè on December 28th .
