Except for last-minute surprises, the last year-end speech by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will be held tonight at 8.30 pm, who will greet the Italians with a last message to the Italians that will be broadcast on all national TVs, with unified networks.

A doubly important speech, therefore, that the Head of State up to the end filed with his closest collaborators before recording in front of the Rai cameras.

The location should be that of the studio in the Palazzina: perhaps we will not find the president behind the desk but sitting in an armchair or even standing, with a television journalism "stand up". The background will be simple, characterized by the inevitable tricolor flag and that of the European Union.

Among the issues that the president wants to deal with are national identity and pride together with the concept of responsibility, with a strong encouragement to a country that has the tools, moral and competence, to get out of the pandemic crisis and all its negative consequences.

As he has done in these difficult months, he will reiterate the need for strong social cohesion, a cohesion that he also asks of political forces: therefore not only individual responsibilities in facing this infinite health crisis but also those of politics in knowing how to read the devastating impact on citizens and the economy.

There are several voices calling for his encore, but Mattarella has repeatedly repeated more or less explicitly that it is not his intention to "force" the Constitution (which in any case does not prohibit re-election). At the end of the seven-year term he wants to take his leave, leaving the country in the hands of his successor.
