Another two months of disqualification for Sandro Tonali . The Newcastle midfielder was banned by the English Football Association after admitting to having breached betting rules while already playing in the Premier League. However, the sentence is suspended .
The former Rossoneri player - who is already serving a ten-month ban issued in Italy in October 2023 for offenses committed when he was at Milan - will not serve the ban unless he commits further infringements before the end of next season . Therefore, having discounted the stop imposed by the FIGC until August, he will be able to return to the pitch regularly in the 2024/25 season.
A fine of 20 thousand pounds was also imposed on him.
The provision of the English federation was announced on Newcastle's website.
The club underlines "the extraordinary and unprecedented level of assistance provided by Tonali by self-reporting and collaborating with the investigation". The player, it is highlighted, " made full admissions, and did so in circumstances where there was no other evidence to support proceedings for misconduct".
Tonali also " continues to follow a therapeutic plan and an educational program with the full support of the club and will continue to train with his teammates".
