The two bands between 90s distortions and experimentationPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Two bands with a unique style, who avoid being lost in standard metal and instead stand out for their personality: this Friday from 9:30 pm, Fabrik will host the island bands The Blacktones and Thrøsk, in a fresh breath of sound not often experienced in the regional scene.
The Blacktones were formed in Cagliari in 2011 as an instrumental project by Sergio Boi (guitar) and Gianni Farci (bass). The idea soon evolved, with the addition of Maurizio Mura (drums), Aaron Tolu (vocals, theremin) replacing the original singer Simone Utzeri, and finally Paolo Mulas (guitar). With three albums released in the past decade, the band's sonic roots lie in the intersection of heavy '90s genres like stoner rock, grunge, and sludge metal, while adding polyrhythmic elements and contemporary tensions. Their latest album, "The Longest Year" (2024), was released via the international metal label Sleaszy Rider Records.
Similar inspirations but a completely different direction for Thrøsk: comprised of three Sardinian members Riccardo Sunda (bass, formerly of Pinkemical Sunset), Claudio Fadda (guitar, of SUMM), and Filippo Lai (drums, formerly of Fun*Key), along with Apulian guitarist Maurizio Calò, they offer a dark, distorted sound, with a slow, meditative pace, punctuated by sudden, airy explosions. Moving with an instrumental approach between post-metal, atmospheric doom, and hints of shoegaze, the band debuted last October with the extended play "Signal Failure."
