Cagliari, after yesterday's 1-1 draw at home against Genoa, does not stop dreaming and is aiming straight for salvation, without forgetting the race for the new stadium that "cannot fail to be named after Riva, our Myth" . This was stated by president Tommaso Giulini, guest of the "Deejay Football Club" program on Radio Deejay, hosted by Ivan Zazzaroni and Fabio Caressa.
"Like all the teams that are fighting for salvation - Giulini assured - the goal is to remain consistently at certain levels , with our values and our characteristics, with pride together with our fans. We will see this weekend what the results of the others will be, next Sunday we will go to Rome to the home of mister Claudio Ranieri , as always we will go to play our game, as mister Nicola has accustomed us, with the desire to play it as we have almost always done". The rossoblù in this championship have not achieved "the victory against the big teams, we have obtained several draws, salvation will be achieved both with some results against the odds and by doing well in direct clashes ".
There was no shortage of comments on Piccoli and yesterday's match at Unipol Domus against Genoa: Roberto is "a great fighter, he's having a good season, he almost never makes a mistake in his performance, we are also helping him to find awareness and continuity by removing the competition that perhaps would have limited him. Last night he exchanged goals and assists with Viola, it was all very nice, but unfortunately his goal was disallowed by a few centimetres, a shame".
Also on air was a reference to the new stadium , one of the hot topics linked to the rossoblù club. Giulini did not hide that « after years of work we are at a decidedly advanced point », underlining that « Cagliari is among the clubs that have made the most progress on the path towards a new facility . The local institutions and various bodies are working, they have assured us that the decision-making conference of services can be concluded positively by the end of the current championship , at which point the Municipality, hopefully by June 30, will decree the public utility of the work and will therefore be able to call for an international tender to assign the construction of the stadium. Extraordinary commissioner to speed things up? If we could finish everything in 2025, we in Sardinia would not need one. At the request of the government and FIGC, we are planning a facility with 30,000 seats immediately with a view to hosting the 2032 European Championships. If things do not get going in the timeframe I have indicated, at that point we will work to adapt and expand the capacity of the Unipol Domus as much as possible: we have invested a lot so far and we do not want to go further ahead with the times».
The new facility , eagerly awaited by everyone – fans first and foremost – « cannot fail to be named after Riva, our Myth », confessed the club president. «We have a multi-year agreement with Unipol also on the new stadium and we will certainly find the right compromise from the point of view of naming rights. Our new home and Cagliari as a whole can only be identified with Gigi Riva».
