No one is backing down. Giuseppe Conte's visit to Cagliari has done little to ease the tension between Alessandra Todde and the Democratic Party, a rift that dates back to last Sunday, when the Democrats decided to boycott the council meeting to avoid voting on the resolutions appointing the managers of the Cagliari and Olbia local health authorities because they were characterized by "legal uncertainty that had not been adequately considered."
The Democrats, who also did not attend the council meetings on Wednesday, have not ruled out continuing along this path. They will decide how to proceed in the coming days today at the party leadership meeting convened for 5:00 PM in Oristano, earlier than the previously scheduled date of next Monday.
The management
This direction won't be a formal step. For an event that Democratic Party circles define as "so serious," Secretary Silvio Lai will seek a vote of confidence. The party recognizes that, faced with the president's position, there are two possible paths: to slouch, pretend nothing is happening, stage symbolic protests, and then stay put, as the movements closest to Todde would likely do; or to engage in a more forceful debate. Before making a decision, Lai will ask the party for a mandate.
Roman secretariats
Todde believes that the Roman party secretariats can intervene: "I have asked the two regional and national secretariats to hold a meeting, which I will then summarize."
The case of forfeiture
Against this backdrop, the Cagliari Court of Appeal hearing is underway, where judges could reach a decision as early as today on the merits of the appeal filed by the regional president's lawyers against the court's ruling. The court, addressing the injunction issued by the Regional Electoral Guarantee Board, reclassified the conduct related to the alleged irregularities in the 2024 election report, upholding both the €40,000 fine and the referral of the documents to the Regional Council for a ruling on the disqualification.
