There is a boom in businesses opened by foreigners: there are over 10,000 on the island
The greatest growth is in the Oristano area, among the preferred activities are trade and construction but also housing, catering and manufacturing
Over 10,000 businesses in Sardinia have been opened by foreigners , and many of these are also artisans engaged in construction, clothing, laundries and restaurant services and are located above all in the Oristano and Nuorese areas.
These are just some of the numbers from the "Foreign-run artisan businesses" dossier produced by the study office of Confartigianato Sardinia , which analyzed the openings and closures of businesses on the island by entrepreneurs born outside the Italian borders.
According to the analysis, the numbers are growing .
«In Sardinia, at the end of 2022, there were 10,536 companies led by non-Italian owners - explain from Confartigianato - up by 0.8% (+84 units) compared to the previous four years (2018). Foreign companies represent 6.2% of the total companies registered in the Chambers of Commerce , and against the 160,772 economic activities managed by Italians».
In the national classification , however, the island is placed in fifth from last position . The business owners, according to the analysis by Confartigianato, come mainly from Morocco, China, Romania, Albania and Bangladesh and are mainly involved in commerce, construction, accommodation and catering, and manufacturing activities.
«In Sardinia, between 2018 and 2022, the greatest growth was detected in the old province of Oristano with 11.7% - explained by Confartigianato -, followed by Nuoro with +7.3% and Cagliari with +0.1% %. Sassari-Gallura is down with a decrease of 2.5%».
«The path of enterprise is confirmed as one of the ways in which foreigners who have arrived in Sardinia can integrate into our economic and social system -, explains Maria Amelia Lai , president of Confartigianato Sardinia -. Valuing foreign entrepreneurs as well, those registered in the Chambers of Commerce and who pay taxes like the Italians, also means committing ourselves to bringing out those pockets of illegality that risk penalizing the many foreigners who contribute to the development of our production system".
