Barumini and the Zapata family, an indelible story that has its roots in time, in particular in the sixteenth century, and which has left traces that are still deeply visible today in the town of Marmilla, a few steps from Su Nuraxi, today an important Unesco site. A period in which Barumini played an important role as the seat of the so-called Barony of Las Plassas, born through ups and downs from the feud created in Marmilla in the fifteenth century, and governed by the Zapatas from the early sixteenth century.

To tell these exciting events, linked to one of the longest-lived feudal families of the Kingdom of Sardinia, but at the same time emblematic of the history of the island between the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries, will be the historian Giovanni Serreli , with the conference "The Zapatas and the feud of Las Plassas”, which will be held on Monday 13 March at 5.15 pm at the Giovanni Lilliu Center in Barumini .

The meeting constitutes the fifth appointment of a cycle of conferences organized by the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation and the Municipality of Barumini as a training course for the Foundation's staff, but it will be open to the public, like the previous meetings, with the aim of offering moments discussion and insight into the history of the island and the importance of protecting, conserving and promoting the Sardinian cultural heritage.

During the evening, making use of the scientific research conducted over the last 25 years, Giovanni Serreli will retrace the history of the fiefdom of Las Plassas and the Zapatas in a popular way. A long common thread that will lead the participants to explore the events of the feudal past - in Marmilla and in Sardinia in general - but also, against the light, the events of the communities that insisted in the Barony, from Barumini to Villanovafranca, passing through Las Plassas. Without forgetting the importance of a territory, the historic Marmilla, which has always been crucial in the fascinating history of Sardinia.

This will be followed by the last stage of the series of conferences on Friday 24 March. The evening, which will begin at 17:15, will be dedicated to a meeting with the archaeologist Giovanni Ugas who will talk about the architecture of the nuraghes with reference to the evolution of the structural characteristics, contexts and reuse over time.
