Forty speakers from North America, New Zealand, Germany, Greece, Turkey, France and from different parts of Italy, three days of meetings with leading experts in the field: from tomorrow until Saturday, the Citadel of Museums of Cagliari will host the conference focused on the value of choroplasty from all over the ancient Mediterranean.
The event, organized by Romina Carboni, professor of the Department of Letters, Languages and Cultural Heritage of the University of Cagliari, Claudia Cenci of the Directorate-General for Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape - Service II Excavations and protection of the archaeological heritage, and by Nicola Chiarenza of the University of Sassari, will be an opportunity to reiterate the importance of terracotta processing in the civilizations that arose on the shores of the Mediterranean.
“The conference will be the first of a series of opportunities for discussion and comparison for scholars interested in analyzing the dynamics of the sacred - explains Romina Carboni -, with a particular focus on the value of votive coroplastics in the ancient Mediterranean in this area . The initiative, which involves a scientific committee and a panel of speakers of international importance, has met with great interest from the scientific community, allowing us to take a further step towards the internationalization of the initiatives of our University ".
The "three days" hosted by the Cittadella dei Musei will be attended mainly by scholars from the ancient world who will compare different approaches to the issue, from the more strictly ancient one to the problems relating to the protection of cultural heritage, with the involvement of representatives of the Superintendencies and museums.
"There are three study days planned - clarifies Romina Carboni -, and will be divided on a geographical basis : given the large number of proposals received, a poster session will also be held".
