But it still makes sense, today, to continue even just to discuss the conflict in Ukraine , of the need to guarantee the latter from the fatal results of a " special military operation " already written in their painful epilogue and whose effects, on a large scale intended , have contributed, and contribute in an overwhelming way, to drag us all into a bottomless abyss ?

Maybe it's just my impression, but I can't help but point out that civil society, the one that daily finds itself dealing with everyday life and with all its economic and health difficulties, is beginning to manifest a certain sense of tiredness and intolerance towards everything that, in any way, contributes to increasing the already present sense of internal and international instability. And Volodymyr Zelensky, with his demands, with the pressing carried out at a rapid pace on the West and its very weak leaders, would seem to emerge, in the eyes of populations tired and fatigued by the past two years of pandemic, almost like a paradigmatic "disturbing element "To be filed as soon as possible.

If my impression had, as I believe it has, a strong sense of verisimilitude, then it would not be pure and simple selfishness, but only a healthy and understandable sense of community survival , especially the European ones, increasingly convinced, and probably rightly so. , that their governments, perhaps due to their manifest inability and ineptitude, are too attentive to the war and the needs of the so-called "attacked" to the detriment of the well-being of their administrators and their contingent needs.

Even if I want to concede and / or understand everything, I am sure, and I do not think I make a mistake, that what remains of the Italian and European political theater will end up paying the price for any further imprudent adherence to the reasons for a "third" conflict in the the context of which "nobody", and I say "nobody", seems to have seriously engaged in the search for peace.

Let us be clear, however, in order to avoid misunderstandings and distorting interpretations. The problems are all revealed in terms of dialectics and verbal exchange between peoples whose contents, far from expressing, if anything, the understandably supportive attitude towards the Ukrainian population, forced in spite of itself to leave their land and their homes, is it reveals in all its instrumental opportunism as an imaginative "means" to try to defeat Russia even if it does not see itself as "how" and "why". A pious illusion , it is evident, which would seem to be useful only to mystify a reality that is too uncomfortable to admit before even telling. That is to say that for which, mutatis mutandis, the European Union is with good verisimilitude the great defeat of a battle wanted "elsewhere" only to try to satiate the appetites of "who knows who" who has any interest in doing "nationalistic divisionism" an instrument of growing expansion. And certainly not by chance.

In the meantime, because the crises that seem to be agitating the governments of the countries of the Union, including the Italian one, are the clear sign of the fact that the alleged solidarity unity , far from being taken for granted, is beginning to creak under the weight of economic and social malaise. So, because, despite it being bitter to admit it, Russia, alone against everyone, has managed to carry out, silently, almost secretly, a latent maneuver to destabilize the internal policies of Western countries, uniform on paper, and only on paper , but inadmissible in practice. Finally, because the much-heralded triumphalism of governments, laboriously concentrated in describing the "victory" that does not exist, is only the usual red herring to unleash if necessary to reflect a reality "other" than the actual one in the an area of which, if Ukraine must really win (and we must agree on the meaning of victory if we can really talk about victory), then it should (but cannot) do it quickly, indicating the terms of the eventual peace. If this is not a utopia, tell me what else it can be.

The truth is rather one and only one: the costs of supporting Ukraine are now unsustainable , the emotional participation in a conflict that in any way belongs to us has greatly diminished to the point of turning into annoying impatience , and what is worse, is that all this was extremely predictable and nevertheless, the alleged government of the best, led by Mario Draghi , wanted to follow up completely regardless of the repercussions of an economic and socio-existential nature that such blind adhesion would have brought with it.

But are we really sure that it is necessary to feel compelled to pay such a high price to safeguard our security and our democracies ? But are we sure that the economic consequences of this conflict, which we are suffering in full measure, represent the price of our freedom?

I think the answer is immediately consequent, and it is certainly not necessary to bother the "Genius of the Lamp" to understand that certain "narratives" no longer hold up as they are crushed by the weight of the growing "polarization" respectively existing between European countries and between these and their respective governments. It is hardly necessary to observe that the rift among the so-called " pacifists " is beginning to grow, identified as "pro-Putinians", who would like a European intervention aimed at putting an end to the conflict even if this should almost involve a surrender of Kiev to the reasons of Moscow, and the so-called " justicialists ", convinced of the fact that Russia must pay (even if we do not see how), and without discounts, the price of an unjust invasion.

On balance, the only certainty seems to be that the much-infamous " European unity " has been consuming itself definitively and, on the contrary, the centrifugal and centripetal thrusts present within it are increasingly strong and aimed at encouraging an important change of pace aimed at to remedy two major contingent concerns: that relating to the cost of living and that, no less important, relating to the threat of the use of atomic weapons by Russia.

The European Union is at a crossroads because it risks being crushed by the pressures coming from both the West and the East. The geopolitical clash is played out in the round and it is necessary to decide in good time which positioning to take if it really wants to play a role. autonomous and protect its own populations from the more or less disguised effects of a triple colonization: the American, the Russian and the Chinese. But in the meantime civil society is suffering, and by suffering it proves less and less willing to bear the political and economic weight of the conflicts both in Italy and in the rest of Europe.
