The Chamber has approved the unified text of the legislative proposals which aim to declare Italian theaters "national monuments".
The provision contains a list of 408 theaters built at least 100 years ago or with buildings of recognized cultural interest or even those "whose programming is aimed at live entertainment activities with public financial assistance". Three Sardinian theaters are present: the Verdi of Sassari, the Civico of Cagliari and the Civico of Alghero.
The news arrives on the occasion of an important anniversary: the 140th anniversary of the foundation of the Verdi theater in Sassari, born in 1884 thanks to the private initiative of deserving citizens of Sassari. It allowed the city to enter the national circuit of classical music concerts and opera performances.
«What makes this recognition even more precious - says Stefano Mancini , artistic director of the Teatro e/o musica cooperative that manages the theater - is not only the longevity of Verdi and its historical value but also the vitality and importance that the theater occupies a significant place in the cultural life of the city, for which it has remained a symbolic and much-loved meeting place over time".
Confirmation of Verdi's vitality is the recent success of the last few seasons which have seen a significant growth in audiences. The concert season, “The Great Interpreters of Music” 2024, had a surge this year with more than 400 season ticket holders and a total attendance, including the matinees for schools, of 4,734 spectators.
