Now the inhabitants of San Pietro of the images are no longer ghosts. An accurate archaeological investigation, wanted by the Diocese of Tempio Ampurias and supported by the Municipality of Bulzi , tells who passed through this mysterious site in Anglona.
They ate Iberian and Islamic dishes, had relationships and commercial exchanges with all of Europe and were eventually overwhelmed by the wars between the Aragonese and the Sardinians. Archaeologists discovered that they were monks.
The fundamental fact of the work coordinated by the archaeologist Domingo Dettori is that the beautiful Romanesque solstitial church is not a cathedral, but the oratory of a very important monastery. The name of the site in the Middle Ages is not known, the first great "mystery" story, San Pietro delle Immagine is recent. A silver alloy coin (bullion) was found, which proves the close ties with France in the 12th-13th centuries. This is a very rare and particular coin issued in Nevers in Burgundy, between 1193 and 1199, by Peter II, lord of Courtenay (1155 – 1219) when he was Count of Nevers.
The head of Cultural Heritage of the Diocese of Tempio, Don Francesco Tamponi, explains: «The investigation identified and brought to light the foundations of the chapter house and the kitchens . But there are also other things to discover, thanks to new excavations." For example, inside the church there would be signs of the passage of the Templars. All the materials extracted and studied by Cristina Mura, responsible for the graphic documentation, together with the excavation assistants Giulia Fanari and Stefano Pintus of the University of Cagliari, have been cataloged with an initial filing, waiting for, thanks to the collaborations already activated with the universities of Cagliari and Sassari, can be analyzed in more depth.
