A jazz interpretation of Pino Daniele. That's what singer Anna Maria Castelli offered last night at a concert in Piazza Moretti in Sassari, accompanied by Adriàn Fioramonti on guitar, Vittorio Fioramonti on double bass and harmonica, and Stefano Rapicavoli on drums.

The opening track, "Napule è," is a nod to the title of the project "Mille culure - Omaggio a Pino Daniele." Less obvious are the choices of songs like "Chesoddisfazione," "Lazzari felici," and especially "Cumbà," which uses three languages: Spanish, English, and Neapolitan. The jazz theme is more fitting for songs like "Anna verrà," "Chi tene 'o mare," and "Quando," although their elegance takes some of the melancholy out of the original versions.

Anna Maria Castelli's concert closed the World Music Festival organized by the Cooperativa Teatro e/o Musica. Other events featured Musica Argentina with the Musica argentina trio, featuring Silvina Orozco (vocals), Luz Pierotto (flute), and Monica Papalìa (piano); and Myricae Mediterraneo, the project led by Luca Falomi (classical and baritone guitar) accompanied by Eugenia Canale (piano and Rhodes instruments), Stefano Della Casa (cello and effects), and Max Trabucco (drums and percussion).
