It didn't reach the top of the podium, but the thousand-year-old olive tree from Luras, after defeating the competition at a national level, took third place in the European "European Tree of the Year" competition.

The ETY is an important recognition established over ten years ago by the Environmental Partnership Association (EPA). S'Ozzastru obtained 14 thousand votes ( here is the award ceremony ) and was beaten by the weeping beech of Bayeux (France) with 25 thousand votes and by the overall winner, another beech from Silesia (Poland) with 39 thousand votes.

The thousand-year-old olive tree of Santu Baltolu, one of the oldest plants in the world, obtains an excellent result in the competition which aims to enhance and protect the trees. There were 15 competitors in total and a third place is not to be thrown away.

The mayor of Luras, Mauro Azzena: «We are satisfied, of course, but there is regret because in the national competition, which brought us to Europe, we won with tens of thousands of votes».
