The most "attended" Christmas tables in Italy are in Sardinia, with an average of 10 guests.

This was revealed by a Coldiretti/Ixè survey, according to which the most "social" people in the Bel Paese, when it comes to celebrating, are precisely the Sardinian ones, on an equal footing with the Sicilian ones.

Christmas 2023 - the study reveals - sees a national average of almost 8 diners and, as for the choice of the place to spend 24 and 25 December with relatives and friends, there seems to be no doubt: 88% of Italians will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas in home, some in their own home (54%) and some with relatives and friends (34%).

A minority of 6% will instead choose a restaurant or a farmhouse, but there is also a 6% who will decide at the last moment.

As for the menu, on Christmas Eve - underlines Coldiretti - mainly fish will be served, while at Christmas meat prevails, but also soups, soups, stuffed pasta, cappelletti in broth and rustic pizzas.

At the table, says the survey, «there will also be space for food and wine gifts among the most popular due to the push towards useful gifts but also due to the affirmation of a lifestyle attentive to the rediscovery of tradition at the table, which is expressed with homemade preparation from you with personal recipes for special evenings."

As regards costs, Coldiretti highlights how Italians this year will return to spending an average of 115 euros per family for Christmas at the table, 10% more than the 2022 holidays , marking a return to pre-pandemic levels , after three years marked by war and Covid.

«The decline in inflation, a bugaboo for families for many months, has had positive effects - underlines Coldiretti - also on the choices of Christmas meals, so much so that the majority of Italians (31%) will spend between 50 and 100 euros , while another 29 % will go up to 200 euros and 10% will reach 300 euros (4% even higher). Only 7% will keep the budget under 30 euros while 13% will keep it between 30 and 50 euros while 6% prefer not to respond".
