The story of Sant'Efisio becomes fashion: the homage to Sardinian tradition in the windows of Rinascente

Until May 12, the windows of Rinascente in Cagliari will display, alongside traditional Sardinian clothing, some evocative reconstructions made entirely of newspaper : a creative and symbolic tribute to underline the profound bond between the L'Unione Sarda Group and the island's history and tradition.
The words of the journalists who have told the story of Sant'Efisio over the years, the expert work of the typographers of the printing center who gave them shape, up to the hands of Caterina Uras who modeled, like fine fabric, original traditional clothes , in a setting meticulously conceived, designed and harmonized by Claudio Rossi and coordinated by Erika Antonucci.
The QR codes in the window will allow passers-by to immerse themselves even more in the story by downloading the L'Unione Digital app and accessing the live streaming of Videolina and Radiolina, on a journey between tradition and symbolized by the flight of a small airplane. With an extra surprise for Unione Sarda subscribers who will be entitled to an exclusive card with a 15% discount to be used for a year on purchases at Rinascente .
THE WINDOWS – The first window on Largo Carlo Felice pays homage to the bond between L'Unione Sarda and Sant'Efisio , presenting three outfits, for men, women and girls, made with historic pages of the newspaper "L'Unione Sarda", taken from the special inserts published over the years on the occasion of the celebration of Sant'Efisio, on May 1st. The pages used are part of the archives that the newspaper has dedicated, in its 136 years of history, to this traditional and important celebration. The little girl wears a virtual reality visor to indicate the history that can never be forgotten in the present and in the future.
The second display case presents the traditional Sardinian clothes of Cagliari (men and women), starting the exhibition with the symbolic launch of a small airplane made of newspaper. The two costumes, made available by the Folkloric Group of Cagliari of the Villanova district, are: su bistiri de panettera, a late 19th century gala and wedding dress typical of women who made and sold bread and sweets on their doorsteps, and su bistiri 'e piscadori, a fisherman's gala dress consisting of a cotton shirt with filigree buttons, over which is worn an embroidered silk waistcoat, closed at the front by numerous buttons. The trousers are red, tight, cinched at the waist with a colored sash with fringes on the sides. The jacket is double-breasted, in heavy black or blue cloth, decorated with two rows of small buttons. On the head, a tall red cap in the shape of a tower with concentric circles. The ensemble is completed by a long brown overcoat (sereniccu), decorated with trimmings and featuring a large hood.
The two windows on Via Roma will be dedicated respectively to Videolina and Radiolina, leading broadcasters in Sardinia, both of which are celebrating 50 years of activity this year.
The traditional dresses of Fonni and Busachi will be on display in the Videolina shop window. The traditional wedding dress of Fonni is composed of a handkerchief (Su Mucadore), a hand-worked shirt (Sa 'Amiscia), an embroidered brocade jacket (Su Cippone), a pleated skirt with embroidered silk flounce and a two-pointed bodice (Sa Veste con Sas Palas), a decorated cloth and silk apron (Su Saucciu) and finally a frieze and cloth underskirt (Sa 'Amiscedda). The priorissa costume of Busachi, owned by Mrs. Elisabetta Concudu, is composed of a white cotton shirt, with the chest, s'imbustu, finely hand-embroidered with representations of the vine, sa mosta 'e sa ide. The bodice (palas) and the white jacket (gippone) in brocade with polychrome flowers. Red skirt (unnedda) in cloth entirely pleated and enriched with several flounces, with the exception of the front panel, in less valuable fabric, covered by the apron (parenanti). The handkerchief, (muncadore 'e tullu) white in tulle of square shape and embroidered by hand. In the background there will be some vintage televisions.
The traditional dresses of Sinnai, Meana Sardo and Sant'Antioco will be the protagonists in the Radiolina showcase . The dress of Sinnai, belonging to the private collection of Gigi Frigau, is a traditional wedding dress, typical of the upper classes and characterized by fine fabrics such as embroidered tulle, velvet and brocade, with gold and silver decorations. The dress of Meana Sardo, which is part of the private collection of Marina Mattana, is composed of sa camisa: a locally produced linen shirt, closed with burnished gold buttons. Sa palabascia: a brocade corset. Su cippone: a short long-sleeved bolero closed with a silver hook. Sa unnedda: in orbace produced locally. Sa cinta: in orbace edged with turquoise silk. Su pannisceddu: a locally produced linen bandage, worn over two handkerchiefs: su trubanti and su muncadore de trempa. The wedding dress of Sant'Antioco, owned by a member of the Proloco, is composed of a white shirt (camisa) with embroidery on the chest and cuffs. A burgundy velvet jacket (gipponi), with cuffs enriched with embroidery made with beads and edged with yellow trimmings. A green and purple bridal shawl (perra 'e seda) in worked silk, triangular in shape and enriched with long fringes in silk thread worked in macramé. On the head the muncadori, a white veil in tulle of a square shape and embroidered by hand. Above the light blue handkerchief (panniccu de colori) in orbace, of rectangular shape. This showcase recreates a festive scene with a guitar, headphones and vintage radio because music has always been the soundtrack of who we are.
