The goal goes beyond literary discourse: we want to keep attention high on social issues, starting with the plague of accidents at work. The Stefano Nonnis Literary Prize was born in Sassari, in memory of the 42-year-old worker who drowned on August 17, 2022 inside the Sarroch refinery, after falling from the pier he was dismantling.
The award is sponsored by the Municipality of Sassari by the will of the mayor Giuseppe Mascia and the councilor for culture , Nicoletta Puggioni , who accepted without hesitation the proposal of the Stefano Nonnis Association , promoter and organizer of the initiative in collaboration with BieMme literary services and in partnership with Edizioni JollyRoger.
For the newly formed association chaired by Cristian Nonnis , the worker's brother, the award is the first in a long series of initiatives and social, sporting and cultural activities that will not only keep alive the memory of the unfortunate worker who died almost three years ago, but will also ensure that workplace safety becomes a central theme in the country's political agenda, which every year has to deal with numbers worthy of a war bulletin.
The call will allow anyone to participate , as long as they talk about freedom, civil rights , affirmation of cultural identities, fight against discrimination of any kind, challenge to injustice, dissent, community, inclusion, violence against women, men and children, bullying, cyberbullying, school, freedom of the press, expression and information, censorship, fake news, changes related to social, economic, cultural or environmental issues, just to give a few examples.
The works must belong to the narrative, but there is no genre limit, from the coming-of-age novel to the historical novel, from fantasy to detective story, from noir to dystopian, from science fiction to introspective or thriller, always for example. The writings that arrive by July 3, 2025 will be examined by the jury composed of Agostino Brianda, Cristian Nonnis, Michela Calledda, Paolo Raimondi and Roberta Ghirardi.
