A unique show that took place this morning in the skies with the partial eclipse of the Sun : the Moon broke the alignment with the Earth and our star, and cast its shadow on our planet, partially obscuring the solar disk.

The phenomenon lasted about a couple of hours in all, and was visible not only from Italy but also from a large part of the Mediterranean area. In our country, the blackout affected from 22% to 29% of our star. On this occasion, the Unione Sarda Planetarium organized a day of observation of the eclipse through telescopes to make children, families and children enjoy this show.

THE PHENOMENON - The solar eclipse always occurs when our satellite is in the new moon phase , that is, the moment when it is not visible. In addition to this condition, the Moon must also be on the same line of observation between the Earth and the Sun: depending on the type of alignment, there will be a total, annular or partial eclipse, just like today.

Now the next appointment is in four years : the next solar eclipses visible also from Italy will be that of 12 August 2026, which will be total in the areas of Spain and Iceland, and that of 2 August 2027, which will be possible to see in its entirety. from Spain and North Africa.

For a total eclipse observable from Italian soil, however, we will have to wait much longer, until 2081.
