In fact, "The sound of beauty" (IF Press) has been released and the subtitle immediately clarifies the subject dealt with in the 208 pages that make up the volume: "Notes on life and philosophy". A life, that of Virginia, which began 39 years ago in Selargius and continues today in Rome, where she lives (together with her partner, the foreign minister and big name of the M5S Luigi Di Maio), works (on the bicameral Commission for regional issues ) and where he continues to study (Theology at the Pontifical Antonianum University).

How did the idea for this book come about?

"After a particular meeting, with a special person. More: a teacher. From this meeting I started a series of reflections on art, music, history and, of course, philosophy. A real path to try to answer to the question: what is beauty? The book collects all these reflections ".

The synopsis speaks of a "help" from Bach ...

"Yes. While I was writing I listened to his 32 Goldberg variations and each one somehow inspired my thoughts. They are melodies that Bach wrote for a count (Hermann Carl von Keyserling, ed) who suffered from insomnia, to help him find peace. And wondering about beauty and about life is just a way of finding inner peace ”.

Its "itinerary" touches numerous historical periods. Is there one that particularly fascinates you?

"The fifteenth century, when the humanists, like Marsilio Ficino, brought Plato's thought back to the center of philosophical reflection, alongside that of Aristotle. Rationality flanked and completed by love".

The themes touched on in the book are varied and varied: from Sappho to haiku, from Boethius to Verdi ...

"There are many 'keys' to reflect. Authors, characters and works of the past must not be considered as something distant or an end in itself. They can and must be a source of inspiration to live and understand our daily life".

Is there a philosopher who was - and is - a source of inspiration for you?

"Pythagoras. His esoteric figure and his search for the purity of the soul through numbers have always fascinated me. A path to reach the ineffable 'eighth note'".

A philosopher, on the other hand, to be rediscovered?

"Master Eckhart. Theologian and speculative mystic".

Did your Sardinia also inspire you?

"Sardinia is a magical land. And magical is the knowledge that Sardinian weavers have been handed down for centuries. I found many ideas in their creativity".

It's love?

"It is always fundamental. After all, to access the 'divine' three things are needed: an encounter, a pain and - indeed - love. The problem is that today it is difficult to find it, I mean the real one. of 'supermarket loves' ".

And she? Did you find it?

"Unlike supermarket loves, the relationship I am experiencing is something very special. There is no room for any selfishness. On the contrary, you have to be ready to put your ego aside, because often the rest of the world comes first. . But it is worth it, because each lives and participates in the dream of the other ”.

Di Maio, his partner, also arrives at the bookstore. Did you read your book? Did you help or advise him?

"I don't know anything! I just saw the cover. Total secret for me too".

After the book, what will be the next step in your life? Orange blossoms?

"Honestly, I don't know. I certainly want to continue studying. For the rest, we'll see."

"Beauty? It is the soul that finds itself. Or, as Sappho said, beauty is what one loves".
