Tomorrow, November 23, at 6.45 pm, in the Church of San Giorgio Martire in Sestu , the “Ennio Porrino” Musical Cultural Association of Elmas presents the concert The soul of the wind instruments in music , held in conjunction with the eleventh edition of the “Attobius, Festas e Traditzionis” event (organised by the TAM TAM Cultural Association on the occasion of the celebrations dedicated to Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians ).

The concert will be performed by the "Spiritus" quintet, composed of the principal players of the Cagliari Opera Orchestra : Lisa De Renzio (flute), Francesca Viero (oboe), Pasquale Iriu (clarinet), Lorenzo Panebianco (horn), and the talented young Sonia Vargiu (bassoon). The ensemble will offer a repertoire that ranges from compositions by Mozart, Haydn, Verdi, Ibert, and Puddu Petretto, creating a fascinating dialogue between European classical sounds and the island's musical traditions. The special guest will be Maestro Luigi Lai, a living legend of the Launeddas . The concert dedicated to Saint Cecilia will offer a complex and evocative musical journey. The opening performance will be Mozart's Overture to The Magic Flute, chosen to introduce the audience with a brilliant and instantly recognizable character. This will be followed by Haydn's Divertimento, offering a moment of classical balance and formal elegance.

The program will then delve into the repertoire of Sardinian tradition with "Is Launeddas" by Puddu/Petretto and "Sant'Efis" by Luigi Lai and Ignazio Perra, pieces that will bring to the hall a sense of identity and sound rooted in local culture. The program will then move on to the symphonic dimension with the Symphony from Verdi's Nabucco . The evening will conclude with Jacques Ibert's "Trois pièces brèves ," three lively movements rich in timbral colors, which will bring the concert to a brilliant close.

Maestro Lai's presence represents a moment of great importance, as it allows for a high-level interaction between classical music and Sardinian tradition, particularly through the art of the launeddas, one of the instruments most representative of the island's musical identity.

The concert is produced by the "Ennio Porrino" Musical Cultural Association of Elmas, in collaboration with the TAM TAM Cultural Association, the Municipality of Sestu, and the Parish of San Giorgio Martire of Sestu as part of the "Sounds and Voices for the Island" project. The artistic collaboration is curated by Salvatore Svezia, while the production is coordinated by Maria Elena Garau.
