The law on autism was unanimously approved by the Regional Council of Sardinia with, first signatories, Stefano Schirru (Psd'Az), Diego Loi (Progressives), Rossella Pinna (Pd).

A measure that aims to improve "the living conditions, the social, educational and working integration of people with autism spectrum disorders" . The main recipients are therefore girls, boys, adults with ASD, but also their families and other people involved in various capacities in the care and assistance.

“I think we can speak of a good example of collaboration between the majority and the opposition - explain Pinna, Loi and Schirru - who in this case have put people and their problems at the center of their legislative activity, seeking the best common solution. From this commitment this unified text was born on which the classroom gave the green light ”.

The law commits the Region to the realization of a series of activities : the construction of an inclusive support network and integrated assistance; the definition of a diagnostic, therapeutic and assistance pathway for taking care of minors, adolescents and adults with ASD, verifying their evolution and adopting suitable measures to ensure the continuity of the pathways throughout their life; the ongoing training of health care, socio-educational and school personnel, consistent with the evidence-based approaches and with the indications of the guidelines in force in the Higher Institute of Health (ISS); basic and applied scientific research.

The role of family members as an active resource in the care and assistance process is also recognized by the Region .

"We wanted the creation of a regional coordination committee - add the councilors - with a proactive and consultative function towards the Region, but also for monitoring and evaluating the actions envisaged by the law".

Finally, the rule was approved which provides for the establishment of the ASD regional register with an IT system aimed at creating a single health and social record which is then inserted into the electronic health record.
