A new direction has been taken at the helm of the Sardinia Film Commission: as of September 1st, Andrea Rocco has officially been appointed the institution's new director general, tasked with leading the revitalization of the regional audiovisual system.
The appointment is the result of a public selection process that began on January 20 and concluded with the approval of the ranking on May 6, 2025.
The call for applications included two phases—an evaluation of qualifications and a technical-aptitude interview— based on the criteria of transparency, impartiality, and merit.
With a two-year appointment, Rocco arrives in Sardinia with a resume of over twenty years in the sector: he directed the Genoa-Liguria Film Commission for 15 years , also holding leading roles at the national and international level, such as the presidency of the Italian Film Commission and the general secretariat of the European network EuFCN.
Regional Councilor for Culture, Ilaria Portas, enthusiastically welcomed the new appointment, emphasizing the new director's strategic and international vision: "Andrea Rocco's appointment represents an investment in Sardinia's cultural and economic future. In a context where film and audiovisual media are crucial levers for promoting the region and creating skilled employment, we are placing our trust in a solid figure with the necessary experience to transform our island into a leading creative and productive hub."
Acting President of the Sardinia Film Commission, Rossana Rubiu , shared the same opinion, highlighting Rocco's ability not only to attract productions but also to develop complex networks and projects: "We welcome his arrival: his profile fully meets the Foundation's needs in this phase of relaunch and consolidation. We are convinced that he will be able to strengthen Sardinia's role, enhancing the region's quality and identity as a film destination and expanding opportunities for the local audiovisual sector."
Andrea Rocco brings an integrated vision of culture, tourism, and economic development, already proven in other Italian and European contexts . A lecturer and speaker at numerous master's programs and conferences, he has distinguished himself with an approach focused on innovation, sustainability, and the valorization of local identities: themes that will likely be central to the new direction of the Sardinia Film Commission.
