The Regional Council wants more money for the councilors' staff and cuts funding for the Regional Council: the controversy explodes.
Tensions are building between the legislative assembly on Via Roma and the executive branch on Viale Trento, led by Alessandra Todde: the Democratic Party would be forced to lay off 15 of its members.Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The Region, understood as its executive and therefore as the Regional Council led by Alessandra Todde, wants more money to support the salaries of its department staff. And since the budget is short, the ones who will pay the price (the cuts) will be those working for the Regional Council, the legislative body. Sardinian politics is in turmoil, with the Democratic Party (PD)—despite its majority—leading the discontent.
The dispute concerns the annual resources allocated in the Region's 2025-2027 Recruitment Plan (PIAO) available to the Assembly for the salaries of external collaborators assigned to each political group, which the Regional Council has reportedly halved, from €4.2 million to €2.2 million.
The Democratic Party itself, the largest group in terms of number of councilors, and consequently of collaborators, has already announced to its 15 temporary employees that they will have to return home , and the issue has already been discussed at the group leaders' conference.
In essence, within the Integrated Activity and Organization Plan, which encompasses the entire Regional system, the "nest egg" allocated to external collaboration expenses would be biased in favor of the executive, which would have decided to allocate the majority of the resources to consultants in the Viale Trento offices, to the detriment of those within the Assembly.
The reduction in funding will therefore force political groups to cut consultancy and collaboration fees, leaving those already working in the Via Roma offices at home.
The case is erupting in the Council, and retaliation is expected during the budget review: councilors could, through amendments, decide to eliminate a large portion of the resources earmarked for the staff of departments and institutions.
