The Meloni government "ignores our autonomy" and is slowing down a reform that represented "a turning point for Sardinia's public administration, for the fairness of local government workers, and for citizens' right to an efficient and cohesive administration."

The Region's reaction to the Government's decision to challenge the law on the Single Sector , approved with the aim of creating a single contractual framework for regional and local authority staff , harmonizing economic and legal treatment, was not long in coming.

Francesco Spanedda , Councillor for Local Government, "while waiting to assess the Government's position in detail," criticized the national executive and expressed deep concern about the consequences of this decision.

The Single Sector Act, emphasizes Todde, a member of the Administration, was "a step long-awaited for almost twenty years to end pay inequality and ensure equal dignity and opportunities for all Sardinian public employees ." A law based on "principles of fairness, responsibility, and the valorization of human capital." Which "did not provide for any privilege." The consequences, warns Spanedda, will be "the entire Sardinian community, especially in the most vulnerable areas."

By challenging the measure, the government is "pursuing rigidity and formulas, to the detriment of the cohesion and proper functioning of institutions." This is a "worrying sign."

The Region promises to fight back: "Together with local authorities and unions, we will evaluate every possible initiative, including at parliamentary and regional level, to defend the approved law and the dignity of those who work for Sardinia."

Because " Sardinia cannot afford to backtrack on fundamental principles. Local government employees have the right to equal care, equal respect, equal dignity . And citizens have the right to a capable and valued administration."

According to the Government, some provisions of the Sardinian bill, "exceeding their statutory powers and conflicting with state regulations regarding public administration personnel," violate Articles 3 ("All citizens have equal social dignity and are equal before the law") and 97 of the Constitution ("Public administrations, in accordance with European Union law, ensure balanced budgets and the sustainability of public debt. Public offices are organized according to legal provisions to ensure the proper functioning and impartiality of the administration. The organization of the offices determines the spheres of competence, powers, and responsibilities of officials. Access to public administration positions is through competitive examinations, except in cases established by law").
