The rebirth of the former archaeological museum of Cagliari: new exhibition spaces and many initiatives
The start of cultural events with a tribute to Gramsci and Cocco Ortu
The former royal archaeological museum in piazza Indipendenza in Cagliari is reborn. The renovated structure is ready to become one of the landmarks of the Castello museum complex by hosting new collections, with attention also to contemporary art, cinema, music and with a suggestive refreshment point on the panoramic terrace.
Last work in progress, then a series of initiatives that will mark the way, with a renewed logo, to the new life after almost thirty years.
Together with the Palazzo delle Seziate and the Tower of San Pancrazio, the museum will constitute a real fulcrum of local history and culture and beyond, together with the citadel of Piazza Arsenale.
Many cultural initiatives are scheduled, presented by the director Francesco Muscolino, by the board member Maria Antonietta Mongiu and by the president of the Archaeological Museum association Franco Masala.
The start on Wednesday 27 April with "No violets and no cyclamen", an initiative in memory of the 85th anniversary of Gramsci's death. The day after the delivery to the Museum of the silver plate that Sardinia, in 1922, delivered to Cocco Ortu is expected. This will be followed by a seminar on the figure of Cocco Ortu himself and, in the afternoon, a lectio magistralis at the Basilica of San Saturnino with the journalist and writer Gad Lerner.
On 30 April, again at the Museum, the meeting entitled "Minima juridica, juridical administrative aspects of landscape protection.
"A tribute - said Mongiu with reference to Gramsci and Cocco Ortu - to two fundamental figures of our history, a way to avoid dragging ourselves into an 'eternal present', even dangerous as the facts of our days show".
