An evening that promises to celebrate the most authentic Sardinia through flavors, traditions, and entertainment. The first Porceddu Festival arrives at Scogli Rossi: discover the full program.
There are places that alone are enough to make an event special. And then there are events that can transform those places into something even more memorable. On Saturday, July 11, the picturesque Piazzale degli Scogli Rossi in Arbatax will host the first edition of the Sagra del Porceddu, an event destined to become one of the most anticipated events of the Ogliastra summer. Organized by the Simba Natural Shopping Center, with the patronage of the Municipality of Tortolì and the Region of Sardinia, the festival was created with a specific goal: to celebrate one of the most authentic symbols of Sardinian cuisine in one of the island's most spectacular settings.
The numbers already speak for themselves. Twenty-tons of suckling pig from a certified and controlled supply chain will be prepared by 25 professional roasters, among the most experienced in the area. Overlooking the sea, a huge open-air brazier will take shape, with over 240 skewers cooking simultaneously, a spectacle that will accompany the audience throughout the evening. The area will open at 5:00 PM, allowing visitors to wander among the exhibitors' and hobbyists' stands, discover typical Sardinian artisan products, and witness the traditional preparation of porceddu live. Food distribution will begin at 6:00 PM.
A menu that tells the story of the territory
The star of the show will, of course, be porceddu, served with a side dish showcasing some of the culinary excellence of Ogliastra and Sardinia. The dish will include a portion of porceddu, offal, goat's cheese, pistoccu (a type of pork sausage) produced exclusively in Ogliastra, as well as water and Cannonau wine, for an experience that aims to showcase the region through its most authentic flavors. The Stella Maris Committee will conclude the evening by freshly preparing traditional fried seadas. This famous dessert will not be included in the festival menu, but can be purchased separately for those wishing to indulge in a traditional finale.
Music, shows and entertainment up to the fireworks
The Porceddu Festival will be more than just a food and wine event. Throughout the evening, the stage will host live bands, DJs, and musical acts, while over seventy tables will feature folk groups, traveling shows, street artists, jugglers, and fire-eaters. Among the most anticipated events is the Best 90s Show, featuring dancers, iconic characters, themed merchandise, and special effects that will transport audiences back to the 1990s. And when it seems the party is over, there will still be time for one last surprise: a grand fireworks display will light up the sky above the Scogli Rossi. The event also caters to the littlest ones. Boys and girls will be able to enjoy the games and entertainment organized by the Mura Brothers, a historic family of Arbatax carnival workers who have been bringing smiles and fun to Sardinia's piazzas for three generations.
A large network of partners
Aperol Spritz and Birra Ichnusa will also be supporting the initiative, with dedicated spaces and promotional activities during the event. The support of the Pro Loco Rocce Rosse will also be crucial, contributing to the success of the event. With the sea of the Scogli Rossi as a backdrop, the aroma of freshly roasted porceddu (pork suckling pig), music, performances, and the warmth of the Ogliastra summer, the first Sagra del Porceddu di Arbatax is preparing to become much more than a simple food festival: a day designed to celebrate Sardinia through its flavors, its traditions, and the joy of being together.
