The opposition opposes the Regional Council's budget resolution: "There's no vision; no to 'bribes' in disguise."
Discussions have begun on the €11 billion budget, with criticism from the center-right and warnings about the possibility of hidden "one-off spending" with predefined recipients. Local authorities are requesting €100 million, but no agreement has been reached.Video di Stefano Fioretti
The 2026 Budget, worth over eleven billion euros, was presented to the Regional Council this morning. After the majority reports (by Budget Committee Chair Alessandro Solinas of the Five Star Movement) and the minority reports (by Deputy Group Leader Fausto Piga of the Left Party), the general debate continues. The regional budget is in its first month of provisional budgeting and will almost certainly avoid its second.
"Given the urgency of moving beyond budget management in twelfths and ensuring the full implementation of the allocated resources, it is hoped that the measures under consideration will receive swift and unanimous approval by the Chamber," Solinas said.
The center-right has already gone on the offensive. For Piga, "this isn't the Budget that marks a turning point and a change of pace. It's a budget without identity or a vision for development. There were few manageable resources, which is all the more reason to approve it in December." Furthermore, "there's a jumble of unconnected measures that undermines the purpose of regional planning . I believe the Council needs to plan more strategically. Furthermore, we've been told to pay attention to timely spending, and even if there aren't any tables this time, it shouldn't be presented in a false light."
The general discussion will continue throughout the afternoon. The group leaders will speak tomorrow morning.
The debate on the budget law was preceded by a joint session with the Council of Local Authorities. The mayors, led by President Ignazio Locci, reiterated the need to increase the Single Fund for Local Authorities by €100 million, already in the Budget Law. The Democratic Party has proposed this, and the center-right supports it, but the majority still lacks an agreement.
