The Iranian artist Nairy Baghramian , who lives and works in Berlin, will receive the 2023 Nivola prize for sculpture .

This was announced by the Foundation named after Costantino Nivola , with a ceremony scheduled for 16 September (at 6 pm) in the museum headquarters in Orani .

The accolade had previously been awarded to Eduardo Chillida and Cy Twombly, then a long hiatus interrupted this year.

The Foundation thus celebrates the artists who, through their research, embody the spirit of Nivola, sculptor, painter and graphic designer, a key figure in the twentieth-century panorama between Italy and the United States.

ABOUT THE ARTIST – Nairy Baghramian masterfully explores the boundaries between space, form and matter over the course of an artistic career spanning over two decades. His sculptural works invite reflection on the dynamics of human relationships and the complexity of social structures.

T he relationship between the Nivola museum and the Iranian artist will continue in the summer of 2024 with an exhibition curated by Giuliana Altea, Antonella Camarda and Luca Cheri .

«It is a pleasure for me to be able to feel connected to the work of Constantino Nivola through the award. I met her works first in Sardinia, with the invitation of the Nivola Museum, and then in urban spaces, in public schools, in the residential complexes of New York - says the sculptress - Her abstract modernist sculptures and reliefs remind us of the potential partner -art politician today and in the future and attest to the democratic potential of Nivola's art , who had to flee to the United States because he was anti-fascist».

«Nairy Baghramian is an elusive and fascinating artist, whose work, which satisfies us on an aesthetic level and challenges us on an intellectual level, reflects the complexity of the contemporary world», explains the president of the Nivola Foundation Giuliana Altea . «With the award - underlines the mayor of Orani Marco Ziranu - our small town opens up more and more to the world . From the center of the Mediterranean in the pergola village of Nivola, a message of hope emerges on the role that art and culture can have in shaping a better future for the new generations».
