Filming Italy Sardinia, its ninth edition. The festival, conceived and directed by Tiziana Rocca, will be held from June 18th at the Notorious in Piazza L'Unione Sarda in Cagliari and from June 25th to 28th at Forte Village in Santa Margherita di Pula. It was presented yesterday in Cannes.
The event has established itself as unique because it links cinema and television for the first time with screenings, meetings, and presentations of films and television series, involving the most important distributors and productions of the small and big screen, along with the giants of VOD and television entertainment.
Tiziana Rocca, General Director of the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, stated: "We are proud to present, in the extraordinary setting of the Cannes Film Festival, the ninth edition of the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, an event that over the years has grown to become an important international meeting point for cinema, television, culture, and music. This year, too, the festival will bring to Sardinia major players from the global artistic scene and many new features that demonstrate our desire to continue to innovate and create opportunities for dialogue between artists, audiences, and new generations."
The leading ladies
This edition's patron will be Clara, a beloved artist and symbol of a new generation of talent, the face of "Mare Fuori" and a singer. Micaela Ramazzotti will be the Festival's ambassador, "bringing her artistic experience to the forefront of this edition." A highly talented actress with a strong personality, she is one of the most acclaimed and versatile performers in contemporary Italian cinema. Gifted with extraordinary artistic sensitivity and an authentic and intense stage presence, throughout her career she has won over audiences and critics alike with her profound, elegant, and deeply human performances.
The guests
Tiziana Rocca further reveals: "Among the international guests, we will have the honor of welcoming a true legend of world cinema like Harvey Keitel, whose presence is a source of great prestige and pride for us." One of the most authoritative and compelling figures in international cinema, Harvey Keitel will be the Festival's honorary president. Throughout his career, he has created unforgettable characters, collaborating with some of the world's greatest directors and leaving a profound mark on the history of contemporary cinema.
The jury of the short film section will be chaired by the extraordinary Elsa Zylberstein, former César Award winner, and composed of James Franco, Samuel Arnold, Rosa Diletta Rossi and Ilenia Pastorelli, as well as Professor Massimo Arcangeli, Stefano Arduini, Andrea Minuz and Christian Uva.
The students
Filming Italy Sardegna - In Corto, organized in collaboration with the University of Cagliari and Professor Massimo Arcangeli, is a highly anticipated event, offering young students the opportunity to explore the world of film and promoting their work in Italy and the United States through the Festival. The winning shorts will be broadcast on Rai Cinema Channel and the MyMovies platform and presented to American audiences at Filming Italy – Los Angeles.
Additionally, in collaboration with Enel, a special award will be presented to a short film focusing on environmental and ecological issues; in collaboration with Festina, the best short film focusing on time will be honored. This edition, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, has established the special "Best University Short Film Award" as part of the "Students in Short" project. This initiative offers a national showcase for the best short films made by students of Italian universities and film schools, fostering dialogue between education, the audiovisual industry, and new creative languages.
The films
The rich program, which will boast over 50 titles, many of them premieres, including international and Italian films, documentaries, restored works, television series, and short films, is still being finalized. The program will also feature a select group of guests who will be arriving in Sardinia from around the world. Among the first confirmed guests are American actress Katherine McNamara, star of numerous successful television series such as "Shadowhunters" and "Arrow," and actress Sveva Alviti, who will present her new film, "Other Side of Fame."
