Sardinia is known, among professionals and not only, for being very rich in archaeological sites. The lack of a specific degree course on archeology at the University of Cagliari was therefore even more evident. Till now. The University of Cagliari has inaugurated the Master's Degree course in Archeology, in the premises of the Cittadella dei Musei which will also be its headquarters .

“Today is a day of celebration”, enthusiastically declares Fabio Pinna , coordinator of the new faculty, which is already ready to accept registrations; “It took a complex process and we have to celebrate it”. Carlo Luglié , president of the promoting committee continues: “We have accepted a request that had been coming from the students for some time”. Before, in fact, these were forced to make their own path, choosing an exam here and one there, perhaps without being able to deepen what they wanted.

The training offer, also proposed on the new website with all the information, ranges from prehistoric, protohistoric, Phoenician-Punic, Greek-Roman, late-ancient, Christian, medieval, post-medieval archeology exams, with absolute novelties such as Egyptology, archeozoology, or underwater archeology . Great emphasis then on the media aspect, with an examination of Public Archeology and communication of Cultural Heritage.

There will be field activities in archaeological excavations, and laboratories, including that of English; level B1 is in fact an essential requirement to enroll.

“Before I was undecided whether to take another course, now I have changed my mind; the exams are very interesting and I am very satisfied ”, declares Marco Demuru. “Archeology is a serious matter, here you can become a serious professional, and project it into the future”, sums up Pinna.
