A new system of air connections - very similar to the one currently in force - valid for the next two years: the Region has sent its scheme to the European Commission in recent weeks and is now awaiting publication in the Official Journal of the EU.

The hope is that the green light from the EU will arrive by the end of the month: in this way the Region would have time to announce the tender and award it before the end of the year, thus avoiding arriving too close to 12 February, the date on which the airlines will no longer guarantee connections between the island and the airports of Fiumicino and Linate.

The risk, however, is that the wait will expand, as often happens when one expects the “stamps” of the Commission. Last Friday the ok went to a project of public service obligations in Sweden (linked to the routes between Stockholm and some minor airports), in the coming days it could be the turn of Sardinian continuity. At least this is the wish.

The scheme will be very similar to the current one. The tight deadline and the political situation suggested not embarking on a broader discussion on the model of connections between the island and the rest of Italy.

The goal is to announce the public tender with economic compensation in order to arrive ready, and with tickets already on sale, for the February appointment . But, given the narrow horizon - only two years - there will not be much time to waste: the Region will have to immediately start working on a new project that will come into effect from 2025.
