If for the New Year's Eve concert Sassari was in competition with other Sardinian cities, it had no rivals for the lyrical-symphonic concert that greeted 2024 tonight at the Teatro Comunale.
A thousand spectators appreciated the initiative of the municipal administration and the Marialisa de Carolis institution which thus launched another novelty for Sassari after the opera proposed in Piazza d'Italia in the summer.
For the Puccini Gala, a tribute for the centenary of the death of the composer from Lucca, the orchestra of the Sassari institution deployed 70 elements, conducted by Francesco Tosi. The Sassari tenor Matteo Desole and the Cagliari soprano Francesca Pusceddu sang some of the most famous arias: from "E lucevan le stelle" to "O mio babbino caro", from "Che gelida manina" to "Nessun Dorma".
Applause and several ovations which then became active participation in the encore with two classic pieces for New Year's Day: "Libiam ne' pleased calici" from Verdi's La Traviata and Strauss's Radetzky's March.
