«Disgust is one of the six fundamental emotions. This emotion is rooted in the culture of the countries. Although it is very subjective, here are the most disgusting foods."

This is the comment at the bottom of the ranking of the most "extreme" culinary specialties on the planet, drawn up by WeGo , a portal specializing in travel around the world. A ranking that sees the Sardinian "casu marzu" in second place, preceded only by a Swedish "delicacy": fermented fish.

The podium is completed, after the Sardinian cheese with worms, by the fertilized egg, a typical dish of South-East Asia and in particular of the Philippines.

Following, in order, from fourth to eighth place, are: frog juice (Peru), digested coffee beans (Indonesia), fermented soybeans (Japan), fermented shark (Iceland) and durian (a fruit typical of Indonesia and Malaysia with a smell reminiscent of rotten onions).

In recent days, casu marzu has also been cited by Forbes as a specialty to absolutely try when traveling to Sardinia, crowned by the prestigious magazine as the "best destination to travel in 2024" .
