From the unwavering critic and television personality Piero Dorfles to the "curious cook" Luca Pappagallo, a fine team of writers, illustrators, mystery writers, and novelists will bring the seventh edition of the Monreale Literary Festival to San Gavino from tomorrow until Sunday, hosted by Casa Mereu. Let's take a look at the program put together by the artistic directors, Giovanni Follesa and Francesca Spanu.
The go
The inauguration is scheduled for 6:30 pm, with institutional speeches and greetings from the artistic directors. "Our goal remains to bring more and more people closer to the world of books and literature, promoting and encouraging reading as a tool for individual and collective growth," says San Gavino's Culture Councilor, Riccardo Pinna. At 7 pm, Giovanni Fancello will present the book "Grazia Deledda and Food: From Homer to the Present Day" (Arkadia) with Rossana Copez and Francesca Spanu. Readings by Stefano Resmini. At 8 pm, Andrea Frailis will coordinate the literary talk "Life, Memory, and Territory Through Stories and Genres." Guests include Katia Fundarò ("Familienalbum," Ischire), Roberto Delogu ("Adesso sì," Il Maestrale), Maria Francesca Chiappe ("Uguale per tutti," Castelvecchi), Graziella Monni ("Il medico di Càller," Solferino), and Giuseppe Corongiu ("Gherras," Janus). At 9 pm, Vito Di Battista will bring "Dove caduta le comete" (Where the Comets Fall) to San Gavino (Feltrinelli). The author will be in conversation with Andrea Fulgheri. The evening will close at 10 pm with a literary reading dedicated to Sergio Atzeni, "I sogni della città bianca," curated by Alberto Ibba. Musical accompaniment by Davide Moreno.
Weekend
Friday begins at 7:00 PM with Francesco Pala presenting "Il dominio della resa" (Neri Pozza) in conversation with Francesca Casula. The event will continue at 7:45 PM with the presentation of "Un ferragosto" (Camena), the new novel by Giovanni Follesa. Francesca Spanu will be presenting alongside the author. At 8:30 PM, Piero Dorfles will present his novel "Amblimblè" (Manni), in conversation with Rossella Perra. At 9:30 PM, Valentina D'Urbano will present "Figlia del temporale" (Mondadori), with Spanu and Cristina Caboni.
Saturday's events will begin at 6:00 PM with the presentation of "Assassinio all'Isola di San Pietro" (Mondadori), the new thriller by Antonio Boggio. He will be joined by Marianna Chessa. At 6:45 PM, Claudio Bagnasco will present "Fare il possibile" (TerraRossa) in conversation with Rossella Perra. At 7:30 PM, Elena Magnani will discuss her novel "Mare avvelenato" (Giunti) with Alessandra Ghiani. At 8:30 PM, there will be a cooking demonstration with chef and popularizer Luca Pappagallo, author of "La nostra cucina di casa" (Vallardi). Sunday: The final evening of the Festival will begin at 6:30 PM with Romano De Marco, who will present "Dimenticare Milano" (Ubagu Press) with Spanu and Fulgheri. At 7:15 PM, Luca Mercadante will present "La fame del Cigno" (Sellerio) with Andrea Pau. The event is organized in collaboration with the Mens Sana festival. At 8:00 pm, the discussion "The Audiobook Boom" will continue, hosted by Manuela Ennas. Speakers will include Cristiana Giacometti, co-founder of Il Narratore Audiolibri, De Marco, and Valeria Ancione ("The Dictatorship of Winter," Il Narratore). At 9:30 pm, Piergiorgio Pulixi will close the seventh edition of the Festival with his new novel "The Man with the Sad Eyes" (Rizzoli), in conversation with Virginia Saba.
Laboratori
Three writing workshops will also be held during the Festival, at 11 a.m. at the Hotel Crocus: tomorrow, "How to Present a Manuscript" by Marco Nardini. Friday, "Anatomy of a Novel: From Editing to Publication" by Davide Piras. Finally, on Saturday, "The Five Senses of Food" by Andrea Fulgheri is scheduled.
