"There were 650 of us on the ferry that left from Olbia, many Sardinians all together, many young people who have the same awareness. The strong sensation is that of living a historic moment. The last gift that the Pope gave us ": Don Cesare Nicolai, priest of Tempio, chooses an image to tell the story of the journey of the pilgrims who left the Island for the last farewell to Pope Francis.
Ships and planes have brought to Rome several thousand people, two thousand of whom had already booked a trip for the Jubilee of Adolescents . The largest groups are those from Cagliari and Gallura . We are talking about 1600 boys and girls, plus 400 priests and companions . This morning in Rome they will bid farewell to Pope Bergoglio for the last time.
The parish priest of Luras, Don Cosma Caria, says: «The trip was quite adventurous, there were so many of us on the ferry and there were some inconveniences. People here have an opportunity to meet, to talk, they come from all over the world. And our kids experience this. With some strong emotions, like when the Civil Protection alert arrived for the closure of St. Peter's Square».
Gilda De Angelis, 13, is one of the girls who left Gallura for the Jubilee of Adolescents and who, instead, will be in St. Peter's Square for the Pope's funeral. She says: "It's exciting to be together with so many people who come from all over the world, we will remember this moment forever."
