Amanda Knox tells (again) her version of the Kercher murder in a TV miniseries. "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox" debuted on Hulu (and in Italy on Disney+) and is based on her autobiography, "Waiting to be Heard: A Memoir by Amanda Knox," published in 2013.

Grace Van Patten (Nine Perfect Strangers, Tell Me Lies) plays the title role, while the cast also includes Sharon Horgan as Edda Mellas, Amanda's mother, John Hoogenakker as her father Kurt Knox, Francesco Acquaroli as Giuliano Mignini, the Perugia prosecutor, Giuseppe De Domenico as Raffaele Sollecito, and Roberta Mattei as Monica Napoleoni, head of the homicide division of the Perugia flying squad and Mignini's right-hand woman.

"I thought I knew more than I actually do," Van Patten said at a press conference about the Knox case, "but the more I researched, watched, and read, and especially talking to her (Amanda), I couldn't believe how much I didn't know. I wanted to show what she went through. Everyone knows what happened, but no one knows how she felt ."

For the Kercher murder, Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were investigated, arrested, and convicted, only to be ultimately acquitted and released from prison for a crime they have always maintained they had nothing to do with. Rudy Guede, however, was convicted for the death of the English student and has now completed his sentence. He too has always denied killing Meredith Kercher.

Commenting on the series' release , lawyer Francesco Maresca, representing the family of the English student murdered in Perugia in November 2007, called for "protecting, as always, the memory and remembrance of Meredith Kercher, who should rest in peace without being cyclically 'disturbed' by Amanda Knox. " "Once again," Maresca noted, "we are forced to confront these useless and unjustified media initiatives by Amanda Knox. It's truly difficult to understand why the American, who has always maintained her innocence, distancing herself from what happened in the Perugia house, continues to involve her life in that affair. Evidently, she can't forget it, or, more likely and now clear to everyone, she has turned it into a constant source of income. In this case, the initiative for the new series doesn't warrant further comment."

"Almost 20 years after poor Metz's death, her memory remains very strong in the Perugia community," emphasizes the family's lawyer, "but also in all of us who worked on such a difficult and controversial case, which ended with a thousand unanswered questions."

"The series about Amanda Knox? She found America in Italy; Italy gave her everything. Respect your institutions." So said Patrick Lumumba, accused by Knox (who was sentenced to three years in prison for slander, which she has already served) in the early stages of the investigation into Meredith Kercher's murder. The then-manager of a pub in the city center was subsequently arrested despite always maintaining his innocence. He was released after 14 days and then acquitted at the prosecutor's request because he was found to have no connection whatsoever with the English student's death. "Honestly, I don't have time," Lumumba explained, "I have so many other things to do, so I don't think I'll watch it. I don't know anything about the content, I don't know if they'll talk about me." "I expect compensation from Amanda," reiterated Lumumba, who has so far received nothing from Knox, "and the payment of legal costs, given that she was definitively convicted by the Supreme Court of Cassation for the crime of defamation against me. She must respect the Italian institutions, namely that decision." According to the Supreme Court, Amanda Knox was "fully aware of Patrick Lumumba's innocence" in the murder of Meredith Kercher, "without having been persuaded to inform the investigators or even the judge at the validation hearing."

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is produced by 20th Television in association with The Littlefield Company. KJ Steinberg (This Is Us) is creator and executive producer. Executive producers also include Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson & Graham Littlefield (The Littlefield Company), Monica Lewinsky (Alt Ending Productions), Amanda Knox & Chris Robinson (Knox Robinson Productions), and Michael Uppendahl, who also directs.
